Muskie boys open with tourney win

It was exactly the start to a new campaign that the Muskie boys’ hockey team was looking for over the weekend, capturing the final of the Dryden High School tournament.
The black-and-gold, who went 2-1 during the round-robin portion of the event, skated to a convincing 7-1 victory over Transcona in the final Saturday afternoon.
Chris Bobczynski sparked the offence with a hat trick while Robbie Rea added three assists.
Braden Webb also contributed to the cause with a goal and two assists, with Nick Jourdain notching a goal and an assist.
The Muskies opened the round-robin schedule Friday afternoon with a narrow 2-1 loss to the Kenora Broncos, with Nick Kaun netting their lone goal.
But that defeat proved to be the only setback for Fort High, who then beat the host Eagles 6-2 and Transcona 7-1 to clinch a berth in the final.
Tyler Mosbeck paced the Muskies against the Eagles with a goal and two assists while Hunter Leishman and Bobczynski both had two-point outings.
As for their round-robin win over Transcona, Bobczynski and Ryan Windigo led the way with two goals and an assist each.
Given returning goalie Scott Parsons was in Winnipeg with the Muskie senior boys’ volleyball team, Ryan Ferguson started all four games between the pipes, finishing with a 3-1 mark.
The black-and-gold now are preparing for their NorWOSSA season-opener set for Saturday, Nov. 12, which will see them return to Dryden to take on the Eagles.
