Muskie boys nab bye to final

Staff

The Muskie boys’ soccer team needs just one win to repeat as NorWOSSA champs after earning a bye into next Wednesday’s league final following the regular-season finale yesterday in Kenora.
The black-and-gold, who entered the day needing just a single point to clinch first place, accomplished that task by blanking the Dryden Eagles 2-0 yesterday morning on goals by Colton Craig and Tim Metke.
The squad then concluded their regular season with a 2-2 draw in the afternoon against the host Broncos, with Cam Gobeil netting both Muskie markers.
Fort High finished the regular season with a 4-0-2 record, and now has to wait to see whether they’ll face the Broncos or Eagles in next week’s final.
The semi-final contest is slated to get underway at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis Field, with the championship game set to kick off at 1:30 p.m.
The Muskie girls’ squad, meanwhile, finally captured that elusive first win of the NorWOSSA season yesterday—earning a 1-0 win over the host Broncos in their final game of the campaign.

Alison Brown scored the lone goal.
Having lost 2-0 to the Eagles in their first game yesterday, the black-and-gold wound up finishing in third place in the regular season with a 1-4-1 record.
That means the Muskies will face the second-place Eagles in the semi-final here next Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
The winner advances to face the Broncos in the final at 3:30 p.m.
The two NorWOSSA champs then advance to the all-Ontario ‘AA’ championships, with the boys’ event taking place June 6-9 in North Bay while the girls’ provincial showdown goes June 7-9 in St. Thomas.
