The Muskie boys’ hockey team fell 2-1 to the Mathieu-Martin Matadors (New Brunswick) in the semi-finals of the Winnipeg High School Hockey League’s Tournament of Championships on Saturday night.
Riley Caul netted the black-and-gold’s lone goal, with goalie David Moen being saddled with the loss.
The Muskies had advanced to the semi-finals courtesy of a 4-3 win over the St. John’s Ravenscourt Eagles the previous night.
Taylor Jorgenson, Kyle Turgeon, George Halverson, and Brian Glavish each scored for the Muskies in that one. Moen picked up the win in goal.
The black-and-gold had split their two round-robin games earlier in the week, winning their opener on Wednesday 4-2 against the River East Kodiaks.
Matt McLellan, Turgeon, Jorgenson, and Patrick Bobczynski were the goal scorers while Moen earned the win between the pipes.
But Fort High then dropped a 4-2 decision to the Matadors in their second round-robin game Thursday night.
Ryan Witherspoon and Glavish tallied for the black-and-gold while Richard Wieringa took the loss in goal.
The Muskies see their next action this Thursday (Jan. 11) when they travel to Ely, Mn. to take on the Timberwolves.
In other Muskie news, the girls’ hockey team edged Babbitt 3-2 in exhibition action here Friday night.
Kristen Penner led the way with a pair of goals while Taylor Meyers netted the other one.
The Muskie girls resume NorWOSSA action this Friday (Jan. 12) when they host the Dryden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
