The jitters got the best of the Muskie boys’ soccer team in its opening game at the OFSAA ‘AA’ tournament this morning in North Bay.
The King’s Christian Cavaliers (Oakville), the second-ranked team in Group ‘C,’ scored a pair of goals in each half en route to a 4-0 shutout over the third-seeded Muskies.
Muskie keeper Cole Kowalski gave up a penalty kick goal and another tally off a corner kick as the Muskies trailed 2-0 at halftime.
Rookie Jacob Albright took over to start the second half, and gave up another marker off a corner kick and a late strike to cap the scoring.
The Muskies then took on the fourth-seeded St. David Celtics (Waterloo) this afternoon, with the outcome not available by press time.
Fort High wraps up pool play tomorrow against the top-ranked Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Royals (Toronto) at 10 a.m., then face the fifth-seeded Holy Cross Raiders (St. Catharines) at 1 p.m. (all times CDT).
The top two teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals, which get underway tomorrow at 5:45 p.m.
The semi-finals, followed by the bronze- and gold-medal matches, will be played Saturday.
