Muskie boys earn shutout over Eagles

Defensive duels are not the norm in the NorWOSSA boys’ hockey conference, but goals definitely were at a premium here Tuesday night.
Ryan Lundy and Tarran Romyn provided the offence, while Scott Parsons stopped all 19 shots he faced, as the Muskies blanked the visiting Dryden Eagles 2-0.
Lundy, who returned to action after missing last weekend’s series against the Red Lake Rams with a re-aggravated collarbone injury, supplied the only tally Fort High would need at 6:50 of the first period on a set-up from Nick Kaun.
Parsons and Dryden goalie Kim Wildhaber proceeded to stymie every other scoring chance from either side, until Chris Bobczynski and Tyler Mosbeck assisted on Romyn’s insurance marker at 5:55 of the third.
The Muskies, who moved to 6-1 and increased its lead atop the standings to four points over the Eagles (4-4), killed off all four short-handed situations it faced in the game, although the power play went 0-for-2.
The squad next heads to Red Lake Falls, Mn. on Saturday for an exhibition game against the Lafayette Eagles.
Their next “home” game is another exhibition battle—this time against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 3:45 p.m. at the Emo/La Vallee Arena.
Fort High then returns to NorWOSSA action Tuesday, Feb. 1 with a visit to Dryden.
Meanwhile, the Muskie girls’ hockey team heads to Baudette, Mn. tonight for an exhibition game against the Lake of the Woods Bears.
The squad is coming off a big 3-2 shootout win in its last game Jan. 14 in Dryden, beating the Eagles for the first time in five tries so far this season.
The Muskies’ next home game is their annual border war with the International Falls Broncos on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 7:15 at the Ice for Kids Arena.
Their next NorWOSSA game is slated for Friday, Feb. 4 here against the Sioux Lookout Warriors.
