The Muskie boys’ hockey team is showing no signs of slowing down in NorWOSSA league play.
Fort High was dominant this week, outscoring its opposition by a combined 25-1 the last two days to see their record improve to a league-best 8-0.
Captain Reed Bodnar and Peyton Avis both scored twice to pace the Muskies to an 8-0 shutout of the host Red Lake Rams yesterday afternoon in a make-up game for the one that was postponed back on Dec. 11 due to a one-day OSSTF strike.
Ashton Cousineau, affiliate player Landon Lowes, Josh Ward, and Jace Jackson also lit the lamp for the black-and-gold.
Darian Klem was solid in nabbing the shutout in goal.
The Muskies had gone into yesterday’s game fresh off a 17-1 rout of the two-time defending NorWOSSA champion Sioux Lookout Warriors on Tuesday night.
Bodnar netted a hat trick to pace the Muskies’ onslaught.
Jaxon Gartzke, Bodnar (two), Ward, and Jacob Albright all found the back of the net in the first period as the Muskies skated out to a 5-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Connor Nelson, Nolan Mann, Cousineau, Bodnar, and Avis then all tallied in the second before Brett McKay finally got the Warriors on the board on a power play to trim it to 10-1.
But Nelson and Ward both found the back of the net later in the frame to extend it to 12-1 after 40 minutes.
Fort High then potted another five goals in the third to round out the scoring.
Jaden Cooper garnered the win in goal for the Muskies.
The Muskies will resume action tomorrow night when they head to International Falls to take on the Broncos in the opener of their annual two-game “Border Battle” exhibition series at 7 p.m. at Bronco Arena.
The black-and-gold then will head to Duluth, Mn. for the Duluth Marshall Christmas tournament slated for Dec. 26-28.
