The Muskie boys’ hockey team started their season on a winning note at a tournament in Dryden over the weekend.
Chris Bobczynski scored a pair of goals to help the black-and-gold to a 7-1 victory over Transcona in the final on Saturday.
Fort High finished the round-robin portion of the tournament with a 2-1 mark as they beat the host Eagles and Transcona following a loss to the Kenora Broncos in their opening game.
The Muskies will open the NorWOSSA season Saturday, Nov. 12 in Dryden, with their first home game slated for Tuesday, Nov. 22 versus Kenora.
Meanwhile, the Muskie girls’ hockey team fell in the ‘B’-side final of a tournament in Winnipeg over the weekend, losing 2-1 to the host Sturgeon Heights Huskies on Sunday.
Sarah Milling netted the lone goal for the Muskies, who had beaten the Dakota Lancers in the ‘B’-side semi-finals on Saturday
afternoon.
Next up for the girls will be an exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 11 in Thief River Falls, Mn. before hosting a pair of NorWOSSA contests that Saturday and Sunday against Dryden and Red Lake, respectively.
In other news, both Muskie boys’ volleyball teams and the junior girls’ basketball squad also were in action this weekend.
The junior girls went 1-2 in their home tournament, downing St. Patrick’s on Saturday morning following losses to Rainy River and St. Ignatius on Friday.
As for the spikers, both squads travelled to Winnipeg to participate in separate tournaments.
The seniors took part in the MBCI tournament, where they finished with a 0-3-2 mark after splitting matches with Vincent Massey and Kelvin while losing to Steinbach, John Taylor, and River East.
The juniors went 1-3 in round-robin play at a tournament hosted by Sturgeon Heights, then were ousted by MBCI in two sets in their first playoff game to finish up in eighth place overall.
All four Muskie court teams will wrap up NorWOSSA regular-season action here tomorrow versus Dryden, with play starting at noon.
The NorWOSSA playoffs will go Thursday, Nov. 10 at the “Eagles’ Nest.”
