Muskie boys advance

After dropping three games to the Kenora Broncos during the regular season, the Muskie boys’ hockey squad reminded their NorWOSSA rivals why they’ve been the team to beat over the last several years.
Tyler Mosbeck netted the game-winning goal just past the halfway mark of overtime last night in Kenora to give the black-and-gold a 4-3 victory and a sweep of the best-of-three NorWOSSA final.
Trailing 3-2 in the last minute of regulation time, Muskie captain Brendan Cawston found the back of the net for the second time in the game to force the extra frame.
Cawston also was a key contributor in the series opener Friday night at the Ice For Kids Arena, scoring a goal and assisting on another as Fort High skated to a 5-1 victory.
Colton Spicer also had a goal and an assist in that one while Devin Stromness had his shutout bid dashed in the game’s final minutes.
Next up for the Muskies will be the OFSAA ‘AAA/AAAA’ showdown, which runs March 22-25 at the MasterCard Centre in Toronto.
The seedings and tournament schedule will be determined once the other berths are decided.
