The Muskie badminton teams attended the NorWOSSA qualifier in Dryden on Tuesday, with two singles and one team advancing to the league final in Atikokan next Wednesday.
Junior Brittany Shine, senior Simone Desjardins, and the senior mixed team of Jason Pattison and Natalie Desjardins all will play in Atikokan for a chance to advance to NWOSSAA, which will be held here April 21.
Shine went 3-1 in pool play in Dryden before winning her playoff to advance to the NorWOSSA final next week. Melissa Mesdag, a second Muskie junior girls’ player, went 1-3 and did not advance.
In the junior boys’ event, Jon Drew placed third in his pool with a record of 2-3 while Alberto Valenzuela was 0-5.
In junior girls’ doubles action, Lacey Johnson and Kristina Caul went 3-1 in pool play before losing their playoff game to finish fourth overall. Megan Darvell and Chelsea Bragg went 1-3 and failed to advance.
In the junior mixed doubles pool, both Muskie duos—Matt Badiuk/Jackie Millett and Roland Roy/Nicole Simmons—finished 0-3.
Simone Desjardins went 4-0 in the senior girls’ pool, winning her playoff to advance to Atikokan. Tracy Treflin finished third in the pool with a 2-2 record.
In senior boys’ singles action, Zack McBride also finished third in his pool with a 2-2 record while Adam Bolen went 1-4.
The Muskie senior mixed duo of Pattison and Desjardins took first place with a record of 5-0 at the tournament in Dryden while Justin Enge and Kayla Shine went 1-4 and did not advance.
