The Fort Frances Herricanes delivered an obedience lesson to the Fort Frances Mud Dogs yesterday evening.
Stacy Patey and Jess Woodgate each homered off Rachelle Yeo as the ’Canes rolled to a 25-7 romp to move four points up on the Mud Dogs for first place in the Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League.
Tracy Morningstar earned the win for the ’Canes, who are riding an eight-game winning streak.
The Mud Dogs, meanwhile, suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season and remain winless in the second half.
Also last night, the defending champion Northwest Bay Beavers had their seven-game winning streak snapped with a 9-7 loss to the host Couchiching Lady Raiders.
Sid Jones handcuffed the Beavers’ offence to get the victory over Darcy Smith.
The Fort Frances Angels continued their slide—falling 12-6 to the host Red Gut Babes.
Alyssa Windego picked up the win for the Babes, who now have won three of their past four, while Sara Jackson took the loss.
Elsewhere, the host Emo Renegades topped the winless Manitou T-Birdies by a 17-14 score.
Mykenzie Borger beat Bev Cochrane in the pitching matchup.
And the Big Grassy Lynx made it three-straight victories, while stopping Dawson’s four-game roll, with a convincing 23-7 win.
The Lynx were led by Nancy Indian’s pitching and timely hitting from Shayna Copenace.
Laurie Fairfield was saddled with the loss.
The men are back on to the field tonight with three games.
The Sight & Sound Wolves head to Dawson to face the Tigers, the Northwest Bay Juniors are in Barwick against the Blue Knights, and the Sabaskong Lakers host the Northwest Bay Chieftains.
