M&M Meats notch four wins


Warmer-than-normal weather was accompanied by red-hot action in the Fort Frances Girls’/Women’s Hockey Association.
In Bantam action, Fort Frances M&M Meats nipped the Fort Frances Lakewood Tire Eagles 2-1 on Jan. 22.
Hannah LeDrew and Emily Kaun scored for the victors while Bryanna Dustin replied for the Eagles.
LeDrew and Alex Gartzke did the damage for M&M Meats in another 2-1 triumph—this time over Fort Frances Super 8—two nights later.
Maddy Morrison netted Super 8’s lone goal.
Teams from all four age levels had games Sunday.
Fort Frances Lions Club were edged 6-5 by the Emo Express 6-5 in Novice play.
Julia Guertin tallied four times for the Lions, with Marissa Kenny notching the other goal.
Emo’s scorers were not provided.
Super 8, meanwhile, fell 10-2 to the FFMHA PeeWee Lions team.
Meghan Bruyere and Morrison were the goal scorers.
But M&M Meats skated away with a 6-1 win over the FFMHA PeeWee Firemen.
Hannah DeGagne led the way with a hat trick while Kaun (two) and LeDrew also scored.
Nathan Smith had the lone marker for the Firemen.
The Emo Express edged the Fort Frances Calder Legal Eagles 2-1 in Atom action.
No goal scorers were provided for that game, or for the Fort Frances Bantam ‘AA’ Leafs 4-2 victory over the International Falls junior varsity Broncos on Tuesday.
That same night, the Fort Frances PeeWee BDO Canada Stars edged the Emo Express 4-3.
Samantha Kelly, Marti Woods, Abby Roach, and Brianna Redsky all scored for the Stars.
Teagan Friesen (two) and Morgan Gibson replied for Emo.
Then last night, M&M Meats blanked Emo 3-0.
LeDrew netted two goals while Taylor Steinke got the other one.
