Mixed title for Bonot

Trevor Bonot capped an excellent season by going undefeated en route to the title at the BrokerLink mixed provincial playdowns over the weekend in Nipigon.
The Stratton native, who joined forces with his sister, Jackie McCormick, as well as Mike McCarville and Angela Lee-Wiwcharyk for the tournament, opened play Thursday night with a 6-2 win over Nathan Lohnes (Fort William).
Bonot then downed Mike Assad (North Bay) 7-5 on Friday morning before taking an 8-5 decision against Zacharia Warkentin (Fort William) that night to earn a berth to Sunday afternoon’s final.
The squad then eked out a 4-3 victory over Jordan Chandler (Little Current) in an extra end in the gold-medal game to claim the championship.
Bonot, McCormick, and Angela Lee-Wiwcharyk all hail from Stratton originally while McCarville is from Thunder Bay.
Former Muskie Hailey Beaudry also had a rink compete over the weekend but she failed to advance past the triple-knockout stage.
Her rink, which also featured fellow ex-Muskie Erin Tomalty of Nestor Falls, as well as Michael Kean and Adam Walker, compiled a 2-3 record.
Beaudry opened play Thursday afternoon with a 10-2 drubbing of Patrick Dzijacky (Schumacher) before falling 7-4 to Chandler that evening.
The squad then was doubled 6-3 by Charlie Robert (Sault Ste. Marie) on Friday morning before rebounding with a 10-5 win against Dzijacky.
But Beaudry’s rink saw their road come to an end that night with a 6-5 defeat to Jordan Potter (Port Arthur).
