Minor hockey wraps up for season

This is the last week for minor hockey activities at the Emo Arena, and also for statistics.
I enjoyed having worked with the coaches, players and executive for the past 30 years, calculating score sheets, and this will be my last connection with EDBMH, as well with EFSC. I’ll concentrate on ringette for the 2002-03 season.
Only one division had outside teams participate, the rest was between local teams–two in Atom, one in Novice. The Emo Leafs edged their home rivals Emo Hawks 2-1 in the first Atom contest.
In the last minute of the second period, the Hawks had a marker. This held up until the eight minute mark of the final stanza, when Chris Mutz tied the game. Three minutes later Alex Marusky blinked the light for the Leafs to assure the team’s victory.
In the rematch, the Hawks could not scratch their way over Emo Leafs, losing again 5-0. All goals were scored in the second period–Ryan McDowall with two, Jordan Meyers, Dylan McDonald and Matt Anderson with singletons.
The Emo OPP played against their best friends, the Emo Rockets, in Novice action, and dealt them a 3-0 loss. OPP laid down the law in the first with Keith McTavish doing the honours. In the third period, McTavish added his second marker and with four minutes left in the third, Rob Rea completed the scoring.
The Holmlund Financial team from Fort Frances paid Emo Bantams a friendly visit and went home on the short end of a 4-3 loss. Scoring for Emo, Dylan McGinnis (2) with the winner, Jake Esselink and Brett Meyers. Fort markers went to Fraser Gibson, David Pierce and Lucas Romaniuk. Emo led throughout the tight no penalty game.
