The Canadian Hockey Association has decided to change all age levels of minor hockey in the country, effective at the beginning of the 2002-03 season.
Under the new rules, the Midget division will consist of 15-17 year-old players, Bantam 13-14, Peewee 11-12, Atom 9-10, Novice eight, and Pre-Novice seven and under.
The change comes after the motion was first discussed at last year’s CHA general meeting. The final decision was made May 21 in Ottawa.
“These changes to minor hockey were based on a number of factors, including players’ physical, psychological, and social development, as we look to develop players skills while ensuring that it is an enjoyable experience,” CHA board chairman Wayne Russell stated in a press release.
