Minor hockey awards announced

The Fort Frances Girls’ and Women’s Hockey Association divvied up their awards between five age divisions.
The Rolling Lake Lightning Novice squad named Shae-lynn Smith and Sydney Jones as their co-Most Valuable Players while awards also were given to Adrian Gurski (Most Improved), Darbey Lemay (Most Sportsmanlike), and Jillian Langtry (Most Dedicated).
Lindsey Roehrig was chosen as MVP of the Kaemingh’s Esso Atom team, with other awards going to Katrina Wreggitt (Most Improved), Avery Allison (Most Sportsmanlike), and Melissa Payne (Most Dedicated).
The Skates and Blades PeeWee squad had co-MVPs in Lauren Pierce and Taylor Meyers, while also recognizing the efforts of Andrea Nelson and Danielle Payne (Most Improved), Miranda Kellar and Lauren Pierce (Most Sportsmanlike), and Jessica Barker and Nicki Mosbeck (Most Dedicated).
Melissa Calder of Pinewood Sports Bantam squad was selected as MVP, with Sandi Elliot (Most Improved), Deanna Saunders (Most Sportsmanlike), and Carly Holt, Katie McTavish, and Nina Bird (Most Dedicated) also winning awards.
Kirsten Boyer took home the MVP award for the D&A Construction Midget team, with the other winners including Sarah McComb (Most Improved), Alyssa Kaemingh and Kathryn Goodman (Most Sportsmanlike), and Kyleigh Ossachuk and Leanne Kaemingh (Most Dedicated).
Meanwhile, the Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association awarded Esso Medals of Achievement to players on four teams in the Atom ‘A’ division:
•Gillons’ Sharks—D.J. Bombay (Most Dedicated), Courtney Easton (Most Sportsmanlike), and Tanner Cuthbertson (Most Improved)
•Causeway Cougars—Brady Caul (Most Dedicated), Jamie Buttner (Most Sportsmanlike), and Manny Cawston (Most Improved).
•Green’s Countrywide Predators—Dale Watson (Most Dedicated), Mike Nelson (Most Sportsmanlike), and Jordan Morrison (Most Improved)
•MEC Bulldogs—Devin Stromness (Most Improved), Andrew Milling (Most Sportsmanlike), and Jeff Cridland (Most Dedicated)
Cridland also was named as the Atom division’s overall Most Dedicated player.
