Minimal drama in feature races

A normal night at the Emo Speedway would see plenty of yellow caution flags, causing big leads to dissipate in advance of a restart for the entire field.
But Saturday’s almost problem-free round of stock car racing meant those who worked their way to the front of the pack–at least, in the finals–weren’t likely going to be caught.
Brody Strachan of Emo ended the night by leading wire to wire to firmly put himself in first place atop the WISSOTA Modifieds division.
Strachan, who finished fifth in his heat, gradually stretched his lead to win by a quarter-of-a-lap and a full seven seconds over Brady Caul of Fort Frances, who spent much of the last half of the race with a sizable flame coming from underneath his car.
Matt DePiero of Fort Frances was third.
Strachan won his first feature of the season and now has 201 points, putting him 20 up on DePiero in second (181) while Ron Korpi of Fort Frances is third (177).
Dan Tocheri took a little longer to gain control of the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature Saturday night.
The Kakabeka Falls driver spent the first 11 laps tracking down early leader James Lambert of Fort Frances before blowing by Lambert on the backstretch of Lap 12 and ending up with a three-second win over him.
Cody Ossachuk of Pinewood, who finished third in the feature, still leads the overall standings with 199 points, ahead of the Devlin duo of Jake Rea (188) and Mike Wilson (185).
And in the Street Stocks division, Tylar Wilson of Fort Frances remained unbeaten in his feature appearances so far this season, winning his third in three tries.
Wilson, who hadn’t raced in three weeks since missing the May 13 event, which was followed by a rain-out on May 20, was the beneficiary of early race leader David Caruk (Thunder Bay) experiencing engine troubles in Turn #2 on the third lap and having to pull out.
The yellow #55 car kept adding to his lead–a feature more easily achieved when closest pursuer Kevin Desserre (Dryden) had his hood pop up and partially block his view for the second half of the race.
Desserre still finished second, with Paul Hari (hometown unavailable) taking third.
Standings for the Street Stocks division were unavailable at press time.
Racing resumes this Saturday, with hot laps beginning at 7 p.m. and the first race at 7:30 (weather permitting).
