Minerva honoured

There was nothing weak about Nick Minerva’s week.
The Fort Frances Lakers’ defenceman yesterday was chosen as the SIJHL’s final regular-season winner of the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player-of-the-week honour.
Minerva, a 20-year-old from New Brunswick, N.J., is a repeat winner of the award after also being recognized back in Week 12.
He garnered nine points in the Lakers’ three-game sweep of the visiting English River Miners over the weekend, including four points apiece in the first two games.
Minerva then delivered a no-look, between-the-legs pass to Dylan Robertson for the overtime winner in Sunday’s finale.
For the season, he led all CJHL defencemen in scoring with 73 points in 52 games—putting him second to Robertson for the overall SIJHL scoring title.
The Lakers now await the winner of the best-of-five first-round series between the last-place Miners and the fourth-place Minnesota Iron Rangers, which begins tomorrow.
Fort Frances will host Game 1 of the best-of-seven semi-final, tentatively set for April 1 at the Ice For Kids Arena.
