The English River Miners’ hockey organization of the SIJHL is pleased to announce that, effective immediately, it has changed its name to the Red Lake Miners.
After careful consideration and thoughtful discussion, the board of directors and membership voted unanimously for the change at the club’s annual general meeting held Aug. 7.
“This change allows us to have an identity of who we are and where we play,” said Miners’ community liaison director Warren Badiuk.
“This should benefit the organization with recruiting, corporate sponsorship, and general identification of our location and area,” he noted.
“The Red Lake area has been synonymous with the mining industry for over a century, and we look forward to representing the area with our new name,” Badiuk added.
“We are excited about the future of the Red Lake Miners.”
The Miners begin their sixth season in the SIJHL with a home-and-home pre-season series against the Fort Frances Lakers on Sept. 14-15.
