What a way to wrap up the regular season.
The Mighty Mustang youth wrestling program from International Falls had five of its wrestlers earn podium finishes at the Jaycee’s State Championship held Friday and Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mn.
Hudson Mann (Grade 8), who originally is from Fort Frances, and Teagan Green (Grade 2) both finished first in their respective weight classes with 500-550 competing at the tourney.
“Hudson’s scrambling is good, as well as [his] position,” noted Mighty Mustangs’ assistant coach Jeremy Mann, who also is Hudson’s father.
“Hudson pinned all his opponents.
“Teagan is aggressive and attacks his opponents well on the mat,” he added.
Other finishers for the Mighty Mustangs included Vai Lockman of Fort Frances (Grade 3), George Boe (Grade 1), and Rodger Dueck (Grade 4) all placing third in their respective weight classes.
“Vai has showed good defence this season, he scores off the other wrestler’s shots,” Mann lauded.
“George has shown big improvements this season with his shots and scrambling.
“Rodger showed good scrambling and defence,” he noted.
“Overall our wrestlers looked good. Moving forward, we want to work on getting stronger and faster and getting to our attacks,” Mann stressed.
“Some ways we will be looking to do this is [by doing] Freestyle and Greco wrestling, for some, and also some summer camps.”
