McKinnon breaks three club records at Lakehead swim meet

Karli McKinnon continued her onslaught on the Aquanauts’ record book at the Thunder Bay International Invitational last weekend–breaking three more records in her final competition in the 10 and under division.
Her times of 32.37 in the 50m free, 2:36.77 in the 200m free, and 2:59.92 in the 200m I.M. (all converted to short course times) were club records.
She also clocked a personal best time of 38.23 in the 50m butterfly.
McKinnon’s other times included 1:14.95 in the 100m free, 42:53 in the 50m back, 1:31.25 in the 100m back, and 1:27.77 in the 100m butterfly.
Aquanaut head coach Debbie Murray said she was pleased with McKinnon’s performance last weekend, and especially throughout the season. She finished with seven club records altogether, including several that have stood since 1983.
Murray said McKinnon matured in all aspects as a swimmer.
“They all grow but certainly Karli had a growth spurt and has physically developed,” Murray noted from the Sportsplex here yesterday afternoon.
She also said her young swimmer has improved the “technical” aspect of her stroke immensely since the beginning of the season.
Meanwhile, Heather Dutton, one of the other seven Aquanauts who made the trip to Thunder Bay, broke a club record in the 200m butterfly with a time of 3:02.78.
She also clocked personal bests in the 50m free (32.49), 200m free (2:38.74), 100m butterfly (1:20.59), and the 200m I.M. (3:02.74), and recorded times of 1:15.37 in the 100m free and 1:31.06 in the 100m back.
“All eight that went did excellent overall,” Murray enthused. “It was a great way to end the season.”
