Dixie McDonald liked her weekend destination so much, she decided to make a return visit this spring.
The Plaza Lanes bowler was on her game last weekend, finishing third in the ladies’ division of the provincial open qualifier in Dryden—earning her a berth in both the singles and team categories at the provincial championships there beginning April 16.
McDonald burned up the lanes in the 20-game event for a total pinfall of 4,465 and an overall average of 223.
Meanwhile, local bowler Carla Hanzuk came within a hair of joining McDonald at the provincials, but missed out by one placing after finishing 10th with a total pinfall of 4,096 (204 average).
The top three finishers in the ladies’ and men’s events advanced to the provincials in the singles’ category, while the top six ensured themselves berths in the team events.
Those finishing seventh through ninth qualified for the Sunset Country mixed team, leaving Hanzuk barely on the outside looking in.
Carolyn Stamarski, who also bowls out of Plaza Lanes, finished in 13th place in the ladies’ division with a total pinfall of 3,950 (197 average).
Her husband, Rick, was the lone male competitor from here. He finished 27th in the men’s division with a total pinfall of 4,257 over 20 games for a 212 average.
