Dixie McDonald was in seventh heaven until her game went the other direction.
The local bowler was in good shape after seven games at the TSN Pins Game roll-offs in Thunder Bay on Saturday, sitting in second place and just 100 pins out of the lead.
But some late difficulties over her final three games proved to be her undoing and she ended up in fifth—despite posting a 240 average.
“I hadn’t been punching anything all day and then in the last couple of games, I punched and split myself to death,” said McDonald, who bowled a high game of 329 and also posted a 308, but fell to 210 and 215 in her last two games.
McDonald came into the event having helped the Sunset Country zone capture the team aggregate title at the provincial championships in Dryden three weeks ago.
“I went in very positive because I’ve always bowled well at Galaxy Lanes,” she noted. “But the girl who won it [Natalie Lalonde of Thunder Bay] bowled terrific.”
Lalonde, who racked up a whopping 277 average over the 10-game roll-off, now will play in the nationally-televised TSN Pins Game competition later this year.
