Jaymee Fiset’s slow start to the season lasted all of one game.
Last year’s goal-scoring leader in the Borderland Women’s Indoor Soccer League bounced back from getting blanked in her season debut by netting a hat trick to spark the Main Street Mayhem past the Boston Pizza Ball Blasters 5-3 last night.
Fiset, who tallied 24 times for the defending champs last season, failed to hit the scoresheet in last week’s 2-2 tie against the Wright Physiotherapy Rockettes.
But she provided no end of trouble for keeper Mary Waghorn and the rest of the Ball Blasters (1-1), who slipped to second behind the Mayhem (1-0-1) with the loss.
Jessica Wilson and Shannon King also scored for the Mayhem, with Krista Kellar earning the win in goal.
Maggie Jean (league-best fourth goal), Tara MacEachern, and Becky Selman replied for Boston Pizza.
The only down note for the Mayhem was the loss of newcomer Andrea Sweigard to what looked to be a serious ankle injury.
Last night’s other scheduled game turned into a forfeit win for the U15 Borderland Lightning (1-1) after the Rockettes (0-1-1) were unable to field enough players.
Action resumes next Wednesday at Fort High with the Mayhem facing the Lightning at 7 p.m.
The late game (8:15 p.m.) features the Ball Blasters versus the Rockettes.
