Mayhem blank Lightning

With its leading scorer held off the sheet, Main Street Mayhem turned to some alternate offensive sources to get the job done.
Nicole Renberg and Katie Stearns each scored twice as the Mayhem took a 5-0 mercy rule win over the U15 Borderland Lightning in Fort Frances Women’s Indoor Soccer League action last night.
Yenta Davidson notched the other goal for the second-place Mayhem (7-3-1), whose top sniper in Jaymee Fiset (19 goals) was shut out until the game already officially had gone in the record books.
The Lightning (2-9) remain in last place.
The night’s other game never got off the ground as the first-place Boston Pizza Ball Blasters (8-3) had to forfeit to third-place Wright Physiotherapy Rockettes (4-6-1) due to a lack of players.
The regular season ends next Wednesday with the same two match-ups as the league plays its make-up games from earlier this season.
It will be the Mayhem versus the Lightning at 7 p.m., followed by the Rockettes and Ball Blasters at 8:15 p.m.
The playoffs then will begin April 22.
