Gabe Mastromatteo was busy adding another gold medal to his extensive collection last week.
The 16-year-old Kenora native struck gold in the men’s 100m breaststroke on Day 2 of the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championship in Fiji in a tightly contested race on Friday.
Mastromatteo touched the wall at the 1:01.27 mark ahead of Daniel Roy of the United States, who touched shortly after at 1:01.85.
He also beat his national age-group record by more than a second.
All eight swimmers in the final finished within three seconds of each other.
Mastromatteo had previously won a gold and a silver at the competition and is coached by his mom, Janet Hyslop.
They’re also both members of the Kenora Swimming Sharks.
