Madill wins national bodybuilding crown

Brock Madill of here continued his mastery in the world of bodybuilding by winning the Canadian Natural Bodybuilding Championships in Toronto last weekend.
Madill, who competed in the 5’9” to 5’11” height class (with no weight restriction), was the overall winner against about 40 other competitors from across Canada.
He earned the distinction of winning the Mr. Natural title in his first time entering this type of competition.
But while competing in an unorthodox class which pitted competitors by height rather than weight, Madill said he preferred this type of setup to most competitions.
“To be honest, I prefer it this way because then you don’t have to over diet and everyone is uniform in height on stage and you don’t have guys up there at 5’4” and 230 pounds,” said Madill, 29, who also won a competition in Florida last month.
Capturing the national title earned the local bodybuilder the chance to compete in several distinguished competitions, including ones in Las Vegas and India this fall.
He also is guaranteed a spot in Musclemania in August.
But Madill, who weighed in for the national showdown at around 185 pounds, said he’s going to take a break from the competitive circuit for the next little while.
“I’m going to take at least six months off to gain a few more pounds,” he noted. “My goal is to be at 190 pounds at the next competition.
“It’ll be tough to get four more pounds but I’m going to work at it . . . I’ll do it,” he pledged.
Madill said the symmetry of his body helped him win yet another overall title under less-than-ideal conditions. He said he spent upwards of 16 gruelling hours at the competition that kept him there until 1 a.m. (well past the normal routine at these types of events).
But despite the obvious fatigue, Madill said it was well worth the title of being tops in Canada.
