The Northwest Bay Beavers derailed Big Grassy’s run to a perfect season by doubling the host Lynx 8-4 in Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League action last night.
Northwest Bay (8-2-1) concluded its first-half schedule on an eight-game winning streak as they knocked the first-place Lynx (10-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten.
In other games, the Fort Frances Mud Dogs (7-3-1) earned a 6-3 win over the Fort Frances Juniors (1-9-1).
The Fort Frances Her-icanes (8-3), meanwhile dumped the host Dawson Diggers (3-6) by a 27-14 score.
And for the two-time defending champion Red Gut Babes (7-3-1) had little trouble in their 26-9 drubbing of the visiting Sabaskong Cougars (2-8).
Last night’s games were makeup contests as all teams try to finish their first-half obligations before starting the second half tomorrow, with the league set to be split up into two geographical divisions.
In the East Division, the three Fort Frances-based teams will join the Couchiching Lady Raiders (9-2), Red Gut, and Northwest Bay.
The West Division will feature Big Grassy, Dawson, the Manitou Blaze (5-6), the Big Island Huskies (2-6-1), the Sabaskong Cougars, and Sabaskong Tebinaak (1-8).
Meanwhile, the Rainy River District Fastball League resumes tonight (weather permitting) with the start of its second half of the season.
Windey’s Warriors will take on the Sight & Sound Wolves at VanJura, the Sabaskong Lakers are at the Couchiching Raiders, and the Rainy Lake Pirates visit the Sabaskong Cubs.
Other games include the Rainy River Royals at the Barwick Blue Knights, the Dawson Tigers hosting the Big Island Huskies, and the Stratton Bobcats at Manitou to face the Thunderbirds.
All games start at 7 p.m.
