It was a low-scoring night all around as only one of the three games reached a combined score of over 100 in Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League action Tuesday.
In a game that saw both teams struggling to get their feet going, and a score that stayed close for much of the way, Revco finally pulled ahead at the end for a 54-42 victory over BDO (1-12).
Aaron Bujold led the way for Revco with 14 points while Brad Wordas had 13 in support, going 5-for-6 from the line.
Liam Metke finished with 17 to lead BDO in scoring.
With a score that was only 17-11 at halftime in the night’s second game, it wasn’t much of a surprise that the final score of 43-24 in favour of Arctic Cat (8-5) was the lowest total combined score for the season.
Arctic Cat was led by their “bigs,” with both Dustin Eyolfson (17 points) and Jeff Nelson (12) dominating the boards over the much-smaller RRFN team, who were missing their lead scorer and top rebounder in Sam Soderman.
Good passing and teamwork all around definitely contributed to the Arctic Cat win.
Rob McGinnis led the way for RRFN (8-5) with 11 points as the team struggled to get its offence going all night.
In the third game, evenly-matched Revco and Sunset Landscaping once again went into overtime, only this time it was Sunset Landscaping (10-3) that eked out the 66-63 victory.
After being down 28-16 at the half, Revco fought back to tie it and eventually go ahead–thanks, in part, to team sponsor Dave Petsnick’s strong eight-point second half.
However, they needed a late basket to force overtime as Josh Mastin and Cody Johnson combined for all of Sunset’s 30 second-half points.
Going into overtime with a score tied at 58-58, and with as tight ‘D’ as they could muster, it still wasn’t enough for Revco (6-7) to stop Mastin, who scored all eight points to lead Sunset to victory.
Wordas had a season-high 16 points for Revco to lead their offence.
League action resumes next Tuesday (Feb. 14) at Fort High.
