A quartet of local runners took in the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon on Sunday.
Nicole Turcotte, Shannon Jackson, and Dana Kosowick each ran a leg of the full marathon team relay to a time of 4:22 while Megan Ross ran the full marathon individually in a personal-best time of 3:58:55.
The course runs through Green Bay, Wis. and wraps up in the famed Lambeau Field.
“It’s a nice course through the city, and a portion of it runs on a river trail, and then the last mile is one lap through Lambeau Field,” Jackson noted.
“You run around the stadium, and come back out through the tunnel that the football players go in and out of, and the finish line is just outside of it.
“Usually for the event, one side of the stadium is full of people, so it’s quite the cheering section for the last lap and very motivating to get you through it,” Jackson added.
“It was a little bit quieter because we were at the end of the marathon portion, but it was still a thrill.”
The trio ran the half-marathon there a year ago, but opted for the full-marathon relay this year and did the final lap together—even posing for a photo inside the stadium.
“We wanted to try something a little bit different this year and we really enjoyed it,” Jackson enthused.
“This way, we got to see the full-marathon course, which was a bit different from the half-marathon course.”
The group made the eight-hour drive to represent Canada under the moniker of “Team Canada—the EH team,” but said they weren’t the only ones from the Great White North.
“There was quite a few Canadians we met, some from Windsor and Sudbury, so a few that even drove further than us,” Jackson noted.
