Piper Miller tallied the game- and title-winning goal in the third period to give the Northern Storm a 3-1 triumph over Tommy Chicago Green in the final of the U10-‘AAA’ division at the Shock Doctor Shootout in Edina, Mn. back on June 11.
Fellow Fort Frances teammate Eva Gerstner netted the opening goal in the first period before Tommy Chicago Green tied it in the second.
It was the only goal the Northern Storm allowed all tournament in outscoring their opponents 46-1 over five games.
Miller’s go-ahead marker was followed by an insurance goal later in the frame.
Kiera Fairnington was the third member of the trio who represented Fort Frances on the Northern Storm, who crushed Easton Synergy ’08 11-0 in its first outing.
They dumped Machine Black ’07 13-0 before blanked Tommy Chicago Green 6-0 to close out preliminary-round action.
The Northern Storm then blew away Easton Synergy White 13-0 in the semi-finals.
