The karate provincial meet was held in Virden, Man. and eight members of the local club attended the competition.
In the men’s white/yellow division, John Sutton placed third in Kata. Angela Brown, who competed in the ladies’ white/yellow, finished second in Kumite and Kata.
In the ladies’ orange/green event, Cheryl Gellately took first in Kumite and second in Kata. Laureen Pinder finished second in Kumite in the brown belt event.
In the first-degree black belt, Lew Kempf had a second place finish in Kumite and a third in Kata. Chris Bazinet finished first in Kumite and second in Kata in the second- and third-degree black belt event.
The highlight of the weekend wasn’t all the wins, it was when Dennis Labbe (an eighth-degree black belt) ran an advanced clinic Friday night and then judged the meet Saturday.
