Local tops group at ‘Gizzard’ run

The weather already was milder than it usually is for the annual “Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard Run” on Saturday over in International Falls.
Lori Green added some extra heat by burning up the course.
Green clocked in at 50:14 to lead a 1-2 Fort Frances finish in the female age 50-59 10K division of the race.
Not far behind Green was Lorena Jenks in the runner-up spot (53:34).
Jenks was one of six Rainy River District runners to earn a second-place finish during the event.
Other local racers to match the feat in the 10K division were Carl Tuesday in the male age 20-29 group (50:13) and Kerry Zub in the female age 40-49 group (52:54).
Both were well behind the respective winners–Duluth runners Kyle Sather (41:56) and Amber Hardwig (46:25).
In the 5K race, 14-year-old Isaac Dykstra of Emo finished in a time of 19:30 to take second in the male age 0-19 division.
That was just behind 16-year-old winner Hunter Wilson of the Falls (19:09).
Meanwhile, Andrea McNabb of Stratton came second in the female age 40-49 group (26:29).
Hardwig was first in 22:42 to capture her second title of the day.
And Karen Sliworsky of Emo crossed the finish line in 27:48 to wind up second behind Patty Jaeger of Vergas, Mn. (25:26) in the female age 50-59 division.
