Local squashers compete in Thunder Bay

Thirteen players from Fort Frances went to Thunder Bay last weekend for the Edward Jones Charity Classic squash tournament.
Mary-Beth Tkachuk finished second in the eight-person women’s bracket after losing 3-1 to Kelly Rahiri while Megan Ross wound up fourth after losing a close five-setter to Katie Arpin.
Kris Krag came in fifth with a 3-0 win over Lynda Roberts in the fourth vs. fifth-place game while Dana Koswick was able to get by Sherrie Christiansen 3-1 to take seventh place.
Christiansen finished in eighth place.
The six-person junior grouping was won by John McCormack, who edged Eric Wetendorf 3-2, while Chad Faragher finished fifth in the 16-person ‘C’ division after beating Steven Roy 3-1.
In the ‘C’ divison, Al Christiansen took fifth place in the eight-person field with a 3-0 win over Bill Richardson while Steve Boileau came seventh with a 3-0 win over Cole Derksen, who wound up in eighth place.
And in the 15-person ‘A’ event, Colin Drombolis earned a sixth-place finish after a five-set loss to Jose Gonzalez while Bob Tkachuk finished in seventh place.
Toby Munroe followed in eighth place.
Bob Shine, who won the La Place Rendez-Vous squash tournament here earlier this year, captured the ‘A’ event.
