Len Noonan managed a come-from-behind victory to capture the Hiram Walker Trophy as champion of the local skeet club during the final shoot of the season Saturday.
At the halfway point, Noonan was trailing Tony Manuge 45-44.
But by the time Noonan had finished, Manuge needed a perfect round to win but wasn’t able to pull it off.
Noonan finished with a 90 total—just one point ahead of Manuge.
Last year’s champion, Jeremy McGuire, presented the trophy.
Noonan also was awarded the Dave Forrester Memorial Cup, which is presented to the shooter with the highest average score over the course of the season.
Meanwhile, the Robert John Kennedy Award for outstanding commitment and achievement was presented to Noonan by fellow shooter Ted Brockie.
“Noonan has been instrumental in keeping the skeet section at the club going year after year,” Manuge said in an e-mail to the Times.
“Looking after the grounds, making sure the targets don’t run out, providing instruction to new shooters—and doing it all with a smile!” he added.
