If one is going to take part in the “Festival of Stars,” then they should shine as brightly as possible.
Such was the case for Border Skating Club members Greta Fedoruk and Montana Plasky, who topped their respective divisions at the event in Sault Ste. Marie to qualify for the Skate Ontario Championships on March 17-19 in Port Colborne.
Fedoruk captured first place in the 10-skater Star 8 Women division with a personal best of 28.22 points.
She edged out Laura Beak from Lake Superior Figure Skating Club (Sault Ste. Marie), who finished with 27.17.
Plasky, meanwhile, was the lone skater out of 22 to break the 20-point barrier (20.99) to earn top spot in the Star 5 Women (U13) category.
Alisha Edington (Parry Sound) second with 18.16.
“I felt coming in that I was very confident because I have started to land my new double loop,” said Plasky.
“I felt like I was having a lot of fun out there, which made it easier to do well,” she added.
“I think I can do good at the all-Ontarios. It just depends on the day.”
Samantha Halliday was the third member of the local club competing in the Soo–coming away with 18th place in the Star 5 U13 group with 11.55 points.
The skaters were accompanied by coach Marie-Josée Potvin.
