When a team gets more first-place finishes than it has team members, it’s safe to say it had a successful outing.
So it went for the nine-person contingent from the Border Skating Club, which glided to 16 gold medals and 26 top-three finishes at the “Icebox Days” figure skating meet at Bronco Arena in International Falls on Sunday.
Whitney Williamson and Hallee Nugent each went 4-for-4 in terms of event victories for the local skaters.
Williamson topped the field in basic six elements and high beginner jumps, along with ’50s theme.
She also teamed up with Rachel Ste. Croix and Lyla Moen to capture the team event.
Nugent earned wins in freeskate six compulsory, preliminary spins, preliminary jumps, and ’80s theme interpretive.
Moen had an individual first in ’60s theme interpretive while also collecting thirds in basic six elements and high beginner jumps.
Ste. Croix was second in ’50s theme interpretive and third in basic six elements.
Jordyn Seguin racked up four podium finishes, including wins in pre-freeskate compulsory and beginner spins.
Seguin was also second in high beginner jumps and third in ’80s theme interpretive.
Abrianna Hasbargen also nabbed a pair of wins in preliminary compulsory and ’70s theme interpretive while taking second in preliminary spins and preliminary jumps.
Meanwhile, it was a memorable competitive debut for both Tayah Cumming and Grayson Wright, who each earned their first wins in their first-ever meets.
Cumming took top spot in snowplow Sam elements while Wright matched that effort in basic two elements.
Alyce Lebrasseur captured basic six elements while also taking third in ’70s theme interpretive.
