Local skaters rake in medals

Podium pirouettes were the order of the day for two teams of local skaters at the Sunset Country regionals in Kenora last weekend.
The local Border Skating Club’s 22-member squad carted home 23 medals while the Emo Figure Skating Club got an even better return on its participation investment—piling up 21 medals among its 17 skaters.
Two skaters from each club now will move on to the Northern Ontario Sectional Inter-club championships Feb. 15-16 in Sault Ste. Marie.
Kate Bondett and Athena Pirkl (BSC), along with Jenna Cousineau and Taylor Latimer (EFSC), will carry their respective club’s colours in this event, with a chance to qualify for the all-Ontario championships in Whitby in March.
