A walleye can cover five km pretty quickly, but there was nothing fishy about some local pavement-pounders going that distance themselves Saturday in Baudette.
Four of five Fort Frances participants finished in the top three of their respective age groups at the “Willie the Walleye Day” 5K road race.
Don DeBenedet led the charge by winning the men’s 50-59 division in a time of 20:54.
Ted Brockie pulled off a third-place finish in that same group with a clocking of 29 minutes even, while also receiving the award as the most senior runner in the race.
John LaPlante earned second spot in the men’s 30-39 group with a time of 20:49, while Bob Tkachuk also came in second in the men’s 40-49 division with a mark of 26:01.
Tkachuk’s wife, Mary-Beth, turned in a time of 35:21 in the women’s 40-49 age category, with her placing unavailable as of press time.
