It was a successful endeavour for a pair of Fort Frances rinks at the U18 West regional boys’ and girls’ playdowns in Keewatin over the weekend.
The Jordon Bazylewski and Tory Beaudry rinks both earned berths at the U18 provincials that will run March 7-11 in New Liskeard.
Bazylewski, whose rink includes Ben Olson (third), Brett Scram (second), and Kian McEvoy (lead), opened play Friday with a 12-2 rout over Andre Morin (Red Lake).
Then on Saturday, they cruised to a 7-4 victory to earn the provincial berth as they were tops of only two teams on the boys’ side.
Beaudry’s rink, meanwhile, went 5-0 over the two days to punch their ticket to New Liskeard.
Her squad, consisting of Katrina Slomke (third), Ashley Payne (second), and Andrea Schram (lead), opened play Friday with a 10-4 romp over Hailey Goriak (Sioux Lookout).
Then they followed that up with a 13-2 thumping of Mackenzie Jolicoeur (Stratton).
Saturday’s action began with an all-Fort battle that Beaudry took by a convincing 10-0 margin over Mackenzie Taylor.
Beaudry then downed Goriak 9-4 before wrapping the day up with a 12-4 romp over Jolicoeur.
The Taylor rink–featuring Sammy Stone (lead), Lauren Penney (second), Daffini Chabot (third), and Danielle Schram (fifth)–failed to advance as they finished with just a 1-4 record.
They opened with an 11-6 loss to Jolicoeur, then rebounded with a narrow 7-6 triumph over Goriak.
Then they capped play with a 9-8 defeat to Jolicoeur before falling 8-6 to Goriak.
