Emo ringette teams competed in a Kenora tournament Jan. 5-7. It was a busy, fun-filled, and competitive weekend, with two of the three teams returning home with wins.
The Bunnies (ages seven and under) won three of their four games–not losing until the gold-medal round against Steinbach, Man. The team played skillfully and showed Kenora what they were made of.
Meanwhile, the Novice girls (ages eight-10) came home with a bronze medal after winning a nail-biter in overtime.
Nikki Mosbeck scored in the last two seconds to tie the game, sending it to overtime, then came through again with the game-winner about two minutes into the extra period.
The Belles (ages 14-19) didn’t come home with a win but I was told the girls showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Rumour has it they performed a fantastic cheer, and stole the hearts and respect of many.
Due to a shortage of players, the Tweens (ages 11-13) combined with the Belles to make up a team.
The Emo Ringette Association will be hosting its annual tournament next month. Take in some of the games–you won’t be disappointed!
