Ethan Carlson-Jourdain will represent Northern Ontario at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships slated for May 5-12 in Membertou, N.S.
The Fort Frances native, a forward for the Kenora ‘AAA’ Thistles and who will be representing Couchiching First Nation, earned his spot on the Team Ontario North roster via tryouts over the course of the winter and spring.
Carlson-Jourdain had been scouted the past two years by Aboriginal Team Ontario while playing at the Little Native Hockey League Tournament with the Thunder Bay Kings Minor Midgets.
Team Ontario lost to Team Manitoba in the championship held in B.C. last May.
This year, Team Ontario was divided into North and South teams due to the skill and play of First Nations’ players across the province.
On the girls’ side, Muskie captain Annalise (CC) Hayes was selected to the squad.
Hayes was outstanding for the black-and-gold this past season, tallying 88 goals and 45 assists through 46 league and exhibition games.

Rainy River native Cole Tymkin, who plays for the OHL’s London Knights, saw his season come to an abrupt end.
The Knights were swept in the first round of the OHL playoffs by the Owen Sound Attack, although Tymkin did his part by chipping in with three assists through the four games.
Tymkin tallied eight goals and 18 helpers in 58 games for London during the regular season, which was his second in the OHL.

Fort Frances native Ryan Faragher had an impressive season for both the Stockton Heat (AHL) and the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL).
Through six games with Stockton, the 27-year-old goalie compiled a 4-1 record with a 1.55 GAA and .949 save percentage.
Then in 20 contests with the Steelheads, Faragher was 10-7-1 with a 2.77 GAA and .903 save percentage.
Fort native Joe Basaraba, meanwhile, put forth a solid effort this season for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (ECHL)
The 25-year-old forward accumulated 18 goals and 29 assists through 71 games.Basaraba was selected in the third round (69th overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2010 NHL entry draft.

Some district talent was honoured at the Confederation College Thunderhawks’ annual athletic awards banquet held April 9 in Thunder Bay.
Former Muskies garnering attention were Tyson Morriseau, named MVP for the golf team, while Amy Penner earned the accolade for women’s hockey.
Ex-Rainy River Owl Hayley Arpin, meanwhile, was named MVP for women’s indoor soccer.
