Of the eight local teams that travelled to Thunder Bay over the weekend for the 20th-annual November Chill tournament, the Lakewood Tire Eagles PeeWee squad turned out to be the best of the bunch.
The Eagles captured the tournament title Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout over the Dryden Hurricanes—only a couple of hours after the Eagles had skated to a 4-2 victory over Petrie’s Stars (Thunder Bay).
Among the contributors on offence for the Eagles during their championship run were Annalise Hayes, Maighyn DeGagne, Kelsey Langtry, Lauren Hamilton, and Nadia McPherson.
The Eagles were joined in their division by the Fort Frances Super 8 and Kaemingh Esso teams, but they both ended up missing the playoff round.
Also at the tournament were the Rolling Lake Lightning Atom squad, Skates & Blades and BDO in the Bantam division, and the ACO Electric Chargers and the Pharmasave Wildcats in the Midget division.
All of those teams also failed to qualify for Sunday’s playoff round.
