Local judokas win gold medals

The Fort Frances judo club picked up three gold medals and a silver at the 2000 Eastern Manitoba Judo Open tournament in Steinbach last Saturday.
Paul Dobransky led the way, winning the gold medal after going 2-0 in the -40 kg boys’ division and then earning a silver in the -40 kg juvenile men’s class. He finished with a 3-2 mark in that division.
Jared Catholique-Bruyere won his gold in the -74 juvenile boys’ division, winning both of his fights to finish with a 2-0 record.
His sister, Tamara Catholique-Bruyere, also earned a gold medal, winning both of her fights in the -50 kg girls’ division.
Next competition for the local judokas will be at the University of Manitoba coming up May 6 followed by the Junior Olympic Championships in Sudbury in late June.
