Local judokas earn medals

Three local fighters picked up medals at the 2000 Inner City Judo Open at Tec Voc High School in Winnipeg last weekend.
Jared Catholique-Bruyere, fighting in the orange/brown class, earned gold in the under-74 kg division after winning both of his fights.
Black belt Billy Deschamps picked up silver in the under-81 kg division after finishing with a 2-2 record.
Meanwhile, Paul Dobransky, also in the orange/brown class, earned a bronze medal in the under-40 kg division. He lost his first fight, won his second, and then lost a controversial one in this third.
Cody Carmody (orange/brown) placed fourth in the under-35 kg division after losing both of his fights.
About 250 fighters took part in the one-day event.
