A pair of local junior curlers have advanced to their respective provincial playdowns next month.
Jenna Enge of Devlin, a member of Sarah Lang’s rink out of the Fort William Curling Club in Thunder Bay, went a perfect 4-0 at the Junior Inter-Regionals 1&2 playdowns in Kakabeka Falls over the weekend to earn a provincial berth at the ladies’ showdown in early January.
Enge is in her second year at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.
Meanwhile, former Muskie boys’ skip Mike Badiuk, who now plays lead for Dylan Johnson’s FWCC rink, also went undefeated to qualify for the men’s provincial playdowns taking place in January, as well.
Badiuk now attends college in Thunder Bay.
Sean Murray, another Fort Frances native, was the third for Tim Focht’s rink out of Thunder Bay, but his team failed to advance with a 2-3 record.
And Megan Moate, third for Nicole Westlund’s rink out of the Port Arthur Curling Club, lost to Kimberley Zsakai 6-4 in a tiebreaker which would’ve qualified them for the provincials.
Fort Frances’ lone representative in Kakabeka Falls, skipped by Isaac Keffer, finished 0-5 in the men’s draw, but they were a team comprised of Bantam-aged players going up against teams as much as five years older.
