Fort Frances Jr. Sabres’ forward Mitch Cain, along with Fort William North Stars’ forwards Jordan Davis (from Devlin) and Michael MacDonald, were named to the Team West roster for the upcoming CJHL Top Prospects game Dec. 17 in Summerside, P.E.I.
“I’m excited to go down there and hopefully represent our region here well,” said Cain. “It’ll be my first time [in the Maritimes], so it should be a good experience.”
The 17-year-old Fort Frances product currently is tied for 11th in SIJHL scoring with nine goals and 16 assists in 21 games.
Cain has been enjoying a stellar sophomore season in the league and hopes to consistently produce the rest of the way towards the playoffs.
“It’s going really good, lots of success with the team, and hopefully it will continue on throughout the season,” he remarked.
Davis, an 18-year old from Devlin, currently is tied for the Stars’ lead in scoring with 28 points in just 19 games. He said the recognition came as a surprise when he first heard the news.
“I didn’t even know about it until [Stars’ head coach] Todd Howarth just came into the room one day and announced to the team that Mike and I had made it,” Davis recalled.
“I was excited, for sure,” he added. “Ontario is the farthest east I’ve been, so it should be fun.”
Davis spent last season with the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack—and his goal is to get back to that league sooner than later.
“I had signed with [the Stars] last year and went to my OHL camp and made it there, so I figured I was going to give them a shot last year, so I might as well do the same thing this year,” he explained.
“I played in the OHL last year and I’m still trying to get back there, but so far it’s been going well for us here [with the Stars].”
MacDonald, meanwhile, has 22 points in 16 games, and recently returned to the Stars after representing the SIJHL at the World Jr. ‘A’ Challenge, where he helped Team Canada West win silver.
