Local duo ‘assist’ win

Alexis Perreault and Amber Jourdain were in a helpful mood yesterday.
Perreault had two assists and Jourdain one as the Couchiching tandem helped second-ranked Team Ontario down third-ranked Eastern Door & North 5-2 on Day 1 of the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Bedford, N.S.
Ontario rallied from a 2-0 deficit with five unanswered goals.
Jourdain helped kickstart the comeback by setting up Monica Kataquapit in the second period.
Kataquapit then tied the game 52 seconds later before Presley Young gave Ontario its first lead early in the third.
Perreault got in on the action, teaming with Alli Moses to set up Kataquapit’s hat-trick marker midway through the frame.
Perreault and Lindsay Gillis then assisted on Nicole Rogers’ tally that capped the scoring in the closing minutes.
Ontario took on sixth-seeded Team Atlantic this morning in their only game of the day (the score was unavailable at press time).
Ontario finishes pool play tomorrow afternoon against seventh-ranked B.C.
The crossover quarter-finals begin Thursday morning, with the medal games set for Saturday in Halifax.
