Local cadet competes in biathlon

District resident Austin Zin competed in two individual events and a pair of team ones at the National Cadets Biathlon Championship on March 1-6 at Valcartier, Que.
He was one of 138 cadets participating in the biathlon showdown.
In the senior boys’ six-km sprint, Zin placed 29th in the field of 44 with a time of 29:21. Then in the 7.5-km race, he skied to 27th out of 44 with a time of 39:57.
Zin then joined Manitoba teammates Jonathan Nelma and Jesse Bell for the 3×4.5 km event. His time of 28:55, with a one-minute penalty, helped the team finish seventh out of 14 with an overall time of 1:16.36.
The three then competed together in the patrol composite male six-km event. Zin skied a 31:05, with a two-minute penalty, as the trio once again finished seventh.
