Both the ladies’ and mixed Sunset Country bowling teams won bronze medals at the six-team Northern Ontario provincial showdown last weekend in Sudbury.
The mixed team featured local bowlers Bob Petawaqueb, Amy Gushulak, and Gwenn Amorde, with Carolyn Stamarski of here as the coach.
Shirley Jensson was the lone local bowler on the ladies’ team, becoming a late substitute for an injured bowler. She originally made the trip to Sudbury as a coach.
Both teams were in second place of the step-ladder event but lost their games to drop to third.
Cambrian North (Sudbury) topped the ladies’ division while Gold Belt (Timmins) finished first in the mixed division.
Rick Stamarski of here coached the Sunset Country men’s team to a fifth-place finish. The top men’s team was not known.
The first-place team in each division now moves on to the national tournament later this year in Thunder Bay.
