Three local bowlers will compete at the Ontario Winter Games in Sault Ste. Marie in March after the Sunset Country mixed team was the top one from the Northwestern region at the 2000 Provincial Youth Challenge in Haileybury earlier this month.
Richard Comeau and the sister duo of Jennifer and Allison AmOrde were part of the mixed team that finished third overall with 22.5 points–just half a point out of first place.
Cambrian North and Gateway tied for top spot in the division with 23 points.
Allison AmOrde was the top local bowler on the mixed team, finishing with a 209.2 average in five games–rolling scores of 281, 220, 163, 200, and 182 for a 1,046 total.
Comeau bowled games of 141, 193, 225, 162, and 220 for a 941 total and 188.2 average while Jennifer AmOrde had a 825 total, bowling games of 198, 140, 159, 147, and 181 for a 165 average.

Meanwhile, John Smith, bowling on the Sunset Country men’s team, finished with a team-high 235.6 average in his five games at Haileybury, rolling games of 239, 286, 183, 258, and 212 of a 1,178 total.
But the team finished in last place overall with 12 points, well behind front-running Gateway (27.5).
Carolyn O’Brien, also from here, was a member of the Sunset Country ladies’ team, coached by Carolyn Stamarski, which finished in a tie for fourth place with Nickel District at 19 points.
O’Brien had games of 180, 173, 209, 143, and 176 for an 881 total (176.2 average).
North of Superior won the ladies’ division with 33 points.
